What happens when you engage with Fluid?
From the outside, the recruitment process can sometimes feel like a waiting game. You send through your CV, have a conversation, attend an interview and then wait to hear what happens next. But behind the scenes, there is often a lot more happening than you might realise.
As consultants at Fluid Recruitment, we are genuinely invested in helping you navigate that next step in your career and we strongly believe that when our candidate have a more in depth understanding the process this will not only help you feel more informed throughout the process but also ensure you feel prepared and confident when navigating your next step in your career.
- Reviewing your application
When you submit an application, the first step is assessing how your experience, skills and career goals align with the opportunity.
Recruiters look beyond job titles and qualifications. We consider your previous responsibilities, career progression, transferable skills and the type of environment in which you might thrive.
Sometimes, a candidate who doesn’t tick every box on a job description can still be an excellent fit. Equally, a strong CV doesn’t always tell the full story, which is why conversations are such an important part of the process.
Fluid tip: Make sure your CV clearly outlines your experience, achievements and key responsibilities. It helps us build a more complete picture of what you could bring to a role.
- The initial conversation
If you engage with a recruiter directly or are shortlisted for a position, the next step is often an initial conversation.
This is an opportunity to understand what you’re looking for in your next move, what motivates you, your preferred working environment and what matters most to you professionally.
Salary expectations, availability, location and longer-term career goals may also come into the conversation.
These discussions aren’t simply about determining whether you are suitable for one particular vacancy. They also help recruiters understand your broader aspirations, so we can identify opportunities that align with your goals, both now and in the future.
Fluid tip: Be open about what you’re looking for. Whether it’s career progression, a better work-life balance, a supportive team or more challenging work, understanding your priorities helps us provide more relevant advice.
- Presenting your profile to a client
Once a recruiter identifies a potential match, there’s a little more work to do before your profile reaches a hiring manager. We consider how your experience aligns with the role, the strengths you could bring to the team and any areas that may need further discussion.
Often, initial introductions are made on a confidential, blind basis, with a summary outlining your relevant experience, motivations and suitability for the opportunity, without disclosing your identity. This allows the client to assess your potential fit before deciding whether to progress further.
Throughout this process, we’re managing expectations on both sides to ensure the opportunity aligns with your career goals and the client’s requirements.
Importantly, your confidentiality is always a priority. Your profile will only be introduced to a client with your express permission, and you’ll always know where your CV is being sent and when.
- Behind the scenes: Feedback, conversations and coordination
Once your profile has been presented, there may be a period of discussion between the recruiter and the client.
The hiring manager might be reviewing other candidates, discussing the requirements internally or considering how different applicants compare. Sometimes, priorities change, interviews need to be coordinated around busy schedules, or a client needs additional time to make a decision.
Recruiters are often following up for feedback, providing updates, answering questions and keeping both parties informed throughout this stage.
- The interview: Preparing both sides for success
When an interview is confirmed, the recruiter’s role extends beyond simply organising a time and sending through an invitation.
We help candidates understand the role, the team, the interview format and what the employer is hoping to learn from the conversation.
Depending on the opportunity, this might include discussing technical experience, preparing examples of previous work, identifying questions to ask or providing insight into the interviewer’s expectations.
We also work with the client to ensure they have a clear understanding of your background, motivations and experience before meeting you.
The goal is to make the interview a productive conversation for both sides, giving everyone the opportunity to assess whether the role and working relationship are the right fit.
- Feedback and next steps
After an interview, recruiters follow up with both the candidate and the client to gather feedback and establish the next steps.
This might mean arranging a second interview, discussing references, clarifying aspects of the role or working through an offer.
Not every process moves at the same pace, and sometimes feedback takes longer than expected. Where possible, recruiters help maintain momentum and ensure candidates understand what is happening. If an opportunity doesn’t progress, feedback can also be valuable in helping you understand the outcome and identify areas to focus on for future interviews.
- Navigating the offer stage
Receiving an offer is an exciting milestone, but there are still important details to work through.
Recruiters can help facilitate discussions around remuneration, benefits, responsibilities, start dates and any outstanding questions you may have, however it is important that both parties have a clear understanding of the expectations before an offer is accepted. Our role is to help ensure the opportunity is the right fit, not just on paper, but in terms of your wider career goals and the employer’s expectations.
- What happens if you are not successful?
Not every application or interview will result in an offer, and that’s a normal part of the recruitment process. Sometimes another candidate has more directly relevant experience. In other situations, the employer’s requirements may change, or the team may decide to take a different approach. Although disappointing, an unsuccessful application doesn’t mean you weren’t a strong candidate or that your experience isn’t valued. For candidates who engage with recruiters regularly, maintaining that relationship can also be beneficial. The right opportunity might not be available today, but a better-aligned role could arise in the future.
Recruitment is a two-way process
Recruitment is about more than matching a CV to a job description. It’s about understanding people, building relationships and finding the right fit between an individual’s career aspirations and an organisation’s needs.
While much of the work happens behind the scenes, communication, transparency and realistic expectations make a real difference to the candidate experience.
If you’re considering your next career move, working with a recruiter can provide valuable insight into the market, guidance throughout the process and a better understanding of the opportunities available to you.
At Fluid Recruitment, your consultant is there to help you navigate your next move with confidence. Whether you are actively looking or simply curious about what’s opportunities are currently out in the market, starting a conversation can be a great first step.
