Why NOT to Hold Out for the New Year for a Fresh Start

As we wind-up towards the end of 2022, we find more and more candidates holding out to the holiday period to review their job situation.

As enticing as the lure of a cold beer on the beach, the Christmas pavlova, or a much-needed sleep-in can sound, the fleeting holiday period is not going to alter the fundamental essence of your job.

Market and salary rates are also at a peak high, with skill shortages driven by the mass departure of kiwis heading abroad. Now is the time to chase this fresh start.

But why bother changing in November?

To start, the November – December period is peak season for end of year celebrations, all inclusive of long lunches, and networking events, and the much-speculated annual Christmas party. You’ll start building long-lasting meaningful connections with your new colleagues and get settled-in with the office banter ahead of the shut-down period.

From an induction and onboarding perspective, you’ll also have the opportunity to fully settle in without the pressure of peak demand to fully learn and understand the new ropes of your role. By the time February kicks in, you’ll be up and ready to go at full operating capacity.

In addition to this, our advice to our candidates is to be proactive, not reactive in your job search. If your job isn’t fulfilling you with the same enjoyment, remuneration, flexibility, or development that you’re looking for, we recommend that you start looking early so that you are first in-line for new opportunities that enter the market.
